. The concept of homework and its meaning among illiterate and semi-illiterate parents are found through a qualitative study in the city of Torrelavega (Spain). By performing the survey and interviews, the researchers have been able to collect data about the meanings of this concept as experienced by parents. They have also been able to identify four theoretical models based on the data: (a) homework is a duty for children, parents and the school; (b) homework is a way of education to be initiated by parents and schools and monitored by the latter; (c) homework is an opportunity to educate children from different social backgrounds and cultures; and (d) homework is an opportunity for parents to learn to read and discuss with their children .
